Have you ever considered being a surgeon? Surgeons are responsible for a wide range of tasks both before, during, and after surgery. Preoperative responsibilities may include reviewing the patient's medical history, performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and obtaining informed consent from the patient. During surgery, the surgeon is responsible for making decisions about how to proceed, using a variety of medical instruments and techniques to manipulate tissue and repair or remove structures as needed. Postoperative responsibilities may include prescribing medication, ordering follow-up tests, and providing instructions for the patient's care at home.

Surgeons are usually considered the most important player in the surgical team because they are responsible for making critical decisions during the procedure that can have significant impacts on the patient's health and well-being. They are also the ones who physically perform the surgery, using a variety of medical instruments and techniques to manipulate tissue and repair or remove structures as needed. In addition, surgeons are responsible for coordinating the efforts of the other members of the surgical team, including nurses, anesthesiologists, and other specialists. This requires a high level of skill, knowledge, and leadership ability. As a result, surgeons are often considered the central figure in the surgical process and are accorded a high level of respect within the medical profession.
