OUR GOAL
If you randomly poll a student and ask them “What do you want to do when you grow up?”, chances are…they’ll say
“Become a Doctor”.
In fact, an actual survey showed that nearly a fifth of children want to be a doctor or a nurse when they grow up.
But most people who set out to become doctors and nurses don’t actually make it. In fact, statistics show that only 16.5% of students who are on the pre-med track in college actually graduate college and go to med school.
WHY IS THAT?
Well, there are 3 reasons that so many people give up on their dream career:
-
Lack of knowledge about what doctors and nurses actually do, day in and day out
-
Lack of knowledge about the requirements and education it take to “make it”
-
Lack of understanding of the different branches of healthcare
On this platform, we aim to provide a more realistic view on what it takes to work in healthcare and look at different career paths in this space.

Let's Talk

The Medical Field
In this introductory post, we’ll explore what the concept of science is in general, inform you about the scientific method, and explain why it is important that the scientific community debates the validity of their findings. Scientists may have encounters with members of the general public who do not realize that informed scientific debate is not the same as a layman’s skepticism. We will address the difference and show you why it is important to accept scientifically agreed-upon knowledge.

The Surgical Team
This blog post will provide a general overview of the individuals that work together during surgery. You will learn how the different roles work together and that surgery is really a team sport.

Nurses
Nurses are an irreplaceable part of clinical care and have one of the trickiest roles to play. Not only do they need to have a large amount of medical knowledge ready at all times, they also usually have the most intense involvement with patients. Although doctors or surgeons play the major roles in the medical interventions, oftentimes what patients remember is the nurse that kept their spirits up, helped them understand the medical procedure they’re having done, and made sure that they know what medications to take after leaving the hospital. Without nurses translating medicine back into everyday life, patients would probably feel alienated in addition to physically vulnerable. In this post, you’ll learn why nurses are indispensable, what training is required to become one, what the lifestyle is like, and hear about some personal reasons as to why someone should consider a career in nursing.
